CD6 special: Club for Growth Action released a new digital ad highlighting former President Trump’s endorsement of Susan Wright (R).

The ad is part of $150K in independent expenditures from the group in this runoff. Prior to Trump’s endorsement just before the May 1 special election, Club for Growth Action spent more than $300K opposing Wright’s eventual runoff opponent, Rep. Jake Ellzey (R-Waxahachie).

LAND open: Galveston County Judge Mark Henry (R) announced he would not run for Land Commissioner and would instead seek re-election.

SD22: Sen. Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) announced he would seek re-election.

SD27: Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. (D-Brownsville) announced he would seek re-election.

HD29: Rep. Ed Thompson (R-Pearland) announced he would seek re-election.

Tarrant Co.: Fresh off a mayoral runoff loss to Mattie Parker, former Tarrant Co. Democratic Party chair Deborah Peoples is reportedly considering running for County Judge, which would potentially put her against former Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, who defeated Peoples two years ago.

Manny Ramirez, president of the Fort Worth Police Officers Assoc., announced he will run for County Commissioner P4. His campaign released a list of early endorsements including Parker; Reps. David Cook (R-Arlington), Craig Goldman (R-Fort Worth), Phil King (R-Weatherford), Matt Krause (R-Fort Worth) and Tony Tinderholt (R-Arlington); Sen. Drew Springer (R-Muenster); and U.S. Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-Irving). Nine-term incumbent J.D. Johnson (R) is not seeking re-election.

Eye on 2024

PRES: U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Houston) will headline a fundraising event for the Grafton Co. (N.H.) Republican Committee and the New Hampshire Republican Party on July 8 in Concord, N.H. He will be joined by the state’s Republican governor, Chris Sununu.
