Rep. James White (R-Hillister) announced in an email to “Friends and Patriots” that he is challenging Agriculture Comm. Sid Miller (R) in the Republican primary. White had previously hinted that he might run statewide following his announcement that he would not seek another term in the House.

Brenham economics professor Carey Counsil has previously established a campaign committee to challenge Miller in the primary.

CD6 special: Club for Growth Action PAC spent another $428K in independent expenditures, mostly TV ad placement and door-to-door field programs, in support of Susan Wright (R), bringing the group’s total investment in the special runoff election to $595K. The group spent $337K heading into the May 1 special election. Early voting for the runoff begins July 19.

HD50/Austin: The Austin American-Statesman’s Ryan Autullo tweeted that Rep. Celia Israel (D-Austin) is “telling others she might run” for mayor. Autullo said her campaign responded that she is “focused on the legislature at this time and on the upcoming special session.”

Campaign Finance: Today (Wednesday) is the last day of the fundraising period for state and federal candidates and officials. These reports disclose contributions received and expenditures made during the first half of the year.
