HD140: Rep. Armando Walle (D-Houston) announced he would seek re-election and not run for the open CD29 seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Gene Green (D-Houston), for which he previously announced his candidacy. Walle was a one-time aide to Green.

HD29: Pearland Navy veteran James Presley established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Ed Thompson (R-Pearland) as a Libertarian.

HD45: San Marcos attorney Amy Akers established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by Rep. Jason Isaac (R-Dripping Springs) as a Republican. She is on the boards of the Edwards Aquifer Authority and the Pedernales Electric Cooperative.

HD65: Plano business developer Kevin Simmons filed to challenge Rep. Ron Simmons (R-Lewisville) in the Republican primary. According to his campaign’s Facebook page, Kevin Simmons is running as a moderate Republican.

HD80: Former Webb County Judge Danny Valdez established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of Rep. Tracy King (D-Batesville). Valdez was elected county judge in 2006 and re-elected in 2010 before being defeated in the 2014 Democratic primary (35%). Prior to becoming county judge, Valdez served six terms as a Webb Co. justice of the peace.

HD133: Houston resident Sam Tejas established a new campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Jim Murphy (R-Houston), likely as a Republican. As Sam “Tejas” Texas, he lost his 2016 Republican primary challenge of Harris Co. Comm. Steve Radack, 88%-12%. As Sam Texas, he lost the 2012 general election for SD7 as a Democrat (32%), the 2004 Republican primary for CD7 (8%) and the 2002 Republican primary for SD15 (17%).

CD2 open: Houston retired Navy SEAL Daniel Crenshaw announced he would seek the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Ted Poe (R-Humble).

CD6: U.S. Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis) issued an apology for an explicit photo that surfaced this week online. The U.S. Capitol Police have opened an investigation into what may be a “revenge porn” crime committed against the 17-term congressman. Barton has announced plans to seek re-election, but he may be reconsidering those plans.

CD21 open: Austin attorney Ivan Andarza established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio) as a Republican. Andarza was appointed by former Gov. Rick Perry (R) to the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corp. board and to the Texas State Technical College System Board of Regents.

CD25: Austin resident Edward Westergaard Hansen established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Roger Williams (R-Austin) as a Democrat.
