Meanwhile, the campaign of Republican Pete Flores released a new ad, “Not a Career Politician,” touting his conservative credentials.

Also, the Associated Republicans of Texas endorsed Flores.

SEN: The campaign of Sen. Ted Cruz (R) has challenged U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) to a series of five debates from August 31 to October 12. According to a schedule posted by the Texas Tribune, all five debates would take place on Fridays in locations around the state and focus on specific topics. O’Rourke previously challenged Cruz to a total of six debates including two entirely in Spanish.

Meanwhile, Libertarian nominee Neal Dikeman, who proposed a pair of debates against O’Rourke in an open letter to him last week, emailed supporters seeking their help encouraging the Cruz and O’Rourke campaigns, and potential debate moderators, to include him.

GOV: According to a survey released by Morning Consult, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is the 10th most popular governor in the county and the 6th most popular governor seeking re-election in 2018. Abbott’s approval rating is 56/26 (+30).

This represents Abbott’s highest net favorable rating we have seen in recent polls, but it is close to at least two others:
