Tomorrow (Monday) is the last day to register to vote, or update one’s registration, for the November 3 general election.

Tomorrow is also the deadline for state and local candidates facing general election opponents to file their 30-day-out campaign finance reports. These reports will disclose contributions received and expenditures made between July 1 and September 24. We expect these reports to become available online on Tuesday. Beginning with the Toss Up and Lean races, we will begin reporting on them and updating our Crib Sheets at that time, and some races may be re-rated based on those reports.

AG (2022): In a signed letter, seven top aides of Atty. Gen. Ken Paxton (R) wrote that they “reported to an appropriate law enforcement authority a potential violation of law committed by” Paxton. “We have good faith that the Attorney General is violating federal and/or state law, including prohibitions relating to improper influence, abuse of office, bribery and other potential criminal offenses.”

Signatories include former First Asst. Atty. Gen. Jeffrey Mateer, who resigned earlier this week.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Paxton said the complaint was filed “to impede an ongoing investigation” of potential criminal acts by employees of his office.
