SEN: The campaigns of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) and U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) have agreed to three debates:

  • September 21 in Dallas
  • September 30 in Houston; and
  • October 16 in San Antonio.

The candidates will stand behind podiums for the Dallas and San Antonio debates. The Houston debate will be conducted “town hall style.”

CD7: U.S. Rep. John Culberson’s (R-Houston) campaign released a new ad, “51 Inches,” focused on his Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.

COMP: The Dallas Morning News endorsed Comptroller Glenn Hegar (R).

LAND: Former Comm. Jerry Patterson (R) endorsed Democratic challenger Miguel Suazo over Comm. George P. Bush (R). Patterson unsuccessfully challenged Bush in the 2018 Republican primary. Suazo also announced the endorsement of Rick Range, a self-proclaimed Alamo historian who also unsuccessfully challenged Bush in the primary.

SD19 special: Early voting has ended for Tuesday’s special runoff election. In Bexar Co., a total of 8,430 people cast ballots in person during the five-day early voting period. More than a third of those votes were cast at the John Igo Library in northwest San Antonio.

HD115: Former Rep. Bennett Ratliff (R-Coppell) endorsed challenger Julie Johnson (D) over Rep. Matt Rinaldi (R-Irving). Ratliff and Rinaldi have met in three recent Republican primaries. Ratliff won the 2012 Republican runoff, which Rinaldi not did not make, but lost his re-election bid to Rinaldi in 2014. Ratliff lost a 2016 rematch.
