The Legislature adjourns sine die on Monday. Early voting for June 10 runoff elections begins Tuesday for most jurisdictions holding them.

House Speaker: In an interview with the San Antonio Express-News, Speaker Joe Straus said he will seek a sixth term as the House’s presiding officer, which would make him the longest-serving speaker in Texas history. Former Speakers Pete Laney (D-Hale Center) and Gib Lewis (D-Fort Worth) each served five terms.

HD107: Mesquite resident Deanna Maria Metzger filed paperwork establishing a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Victoria Neave (D-Dallas) as a Republican. Metzger is the president of the First Ladies Republican Club

CD12: North Richland Hills educator and Black Lives Matter activist Al Woolum filed paperwork establishing a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth) as a Democrat.

El Paso: The El Paso Times endorsed former Rep. Dee Margo (R-El Paso) in the mayoral runoff and reiterated its endorsements of Alexsandra Annello (D2), Shane Haggerty (D4) and Cassandra Hernandez-Brown (D4) in their city council runoff races. The paper endorsed Adolfo Lopez in the D8 special election triggered by the resignation of Cortney Niland (Lopez lost the 2016 Democratic primary to now-Rep. Lina Ortega (D-El Paso).). The paper previously made no endorsement in the mayor’s race for the May 6 election.
