SD19 special: 30-day-out campaign finance reports are due tomorrow (Monday) from candidates running in the special election to fill the unexpired term of former Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio). These reports will cover contributions received and expenditures made up until June 21. The beginning of the reporting period varies by candidate based on either their last report or the (re)authorizing of their campaign account. We expect these reports to become available online sometime Tuesday.

HD52 special: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) ordered a special election for November 6 to fill the unexpired term of former Rep. Larry Gonzales (R-Round Rock). Candidates must file by August 23. Round Rock case manager Cynthia Flores (R) and Round Rock education nonprofit executive James Talarico (D) are the only candidates on the general election ballot for the seat.

CD27 special: Turnout across the district’s 13 counties appears to have been a little south of 9%, which is typical for a special election that does not coincide with a general election. About 40% fewer people cast ballots in the CD27 special election than in the last congressional special election that did not fall on a November general election date. In May 2003, just over 58K voted in the CD19 special election. Just over 36K voted in this year’s CD27 special election.
