SD19 special: Early voting begins tomorrow (Monday) for the emergency special election to fill the unexpired term of former Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio). Four Democrats, three Republicans and a Libertarian are in the race.
The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Rep. Roland Gutierrez (D-San Antonio). Texas Right to Life PAC endorsed Pete Flores (R).
Campaign finance: Federal officeholders and candidates were required to file their July quarterly reports today (Sunday). We look at the key races here, and we have fully updated our Crib Sheet. State officeholders and candidates are required to file their July semiannual reports tomorrow (Monday). Those usually begin appearing online during the day on Tuesday, at which time we will begin our analyses.
HD52 open: Democratic candidate James Talarico announced he will report receiving more than $118K in contributions from 1,207 donors and having more than $72K on hand. No Democrat ran for the seat in 2016.
HD115: The Texas Medical Assoc. TEXPAC endorsed challenger Julie Johnson (D) over Rep. Matt Rinaldi (R-Irving).
HD136: Democratic challenger John Bucy announced he will report receiving more than $90K in contributions and having around $70K on hand. Bucy raised a total of $95K for his unsuccessful 2014 challenge of Rep. Tony Dale (R-Cedar Park). Dale’s 2016 challenger raised less than $2K.
CD31: EMILY’s List endorsed Democratic challenger M.J. Hegar over U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-Round Rock).
