Calling him an “energetic warrior,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has endorsed Rep. Borris Miles (D-Houston) to succeed Sen. Rodney Ellis (D-Houston). The Miles campaign began distributing the endorsement letter, dated July 1, late this week.

Miles also touted the endorsements of former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, Sen. John Whitmire and Rep. Jarvis Johnson. He also said he had the support of Rep. Harold Dutton, who was included on a list of endorsements issued by Rep. Senfronia Thompson (D-Houston) earlier in the week. She claims the support of eight of her House colleagues.

Miles, Thompson and former Houston Controller Ron Green are the three announced candidates for the nomination. Democratic precinct chairs from SD13 will meet on July 16 to pick a replacement nominee for SD13. Ellis abandoned his re-election plans to run for Harris Co. Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the Houston Chronicle endorsed Thompson.
