Redistricting: The federal trial over the state and federal House of Representatives districts began today before federal District Judges Orlando Garcia, Xavier Rodriguez and Jerry Smith. Most of the more than 10 hours of testimony revolved around plaintiffs’ witnesses demonstrating potential ways of increasing Hispanic/Latino opportunity districts within the confines of the federal Voting Rights Act and without dividing municipalities and neighborhoods to the extent of the current maps. The plaintiffs were not necessarily proposing the maps as remedies.

LTGOV: The Dan Patrick campaign said in a statement that it raised almost $4M during the last 12 days of June, and he has nearly $17M on hand. As far as we can tell, that is the highest cash-on-hand figure ever reported by a Lt. Governor, breaking his own record of $13.7M set in December 2016.

CD7: Democratic candidate Alex Triantaphyllis will report raising more than $450K during the second quarter and having more than $400K on hand.
