Rep. Molly White (R-Belton) has requested a recount of ballots after her 118-vote defeat to former Rep. Hugh Shine in the HD55 Republican primary.

In a Facebook post, White wrote: “After prayer and conversations with my team and supporters we have decided to request a recount of the ballots cast in House District 55. We are at peace regardless of the results. There were 19,060 votes cast and current returns show us coming short by only 118 votes. Ensuring fairness and accuracy with this election is essential for our community.”

Rep. David Simpson (R-Longview) and Red Brown, who were separated by 13 votes after Tuesday’s counting was completed, have spoken about a recount and plan to pursue it with Brown’s campaign paying the fee. Because there are several hundred provisional and overseas military ballots that were not included in Tuesday’s counts, the result of the election could change prior to the recount. As it stands, Simpson would face Rep. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) in the SD1 runoff.

Each county will canvass election results next week. These will produce the official results of Tuesday’s elections.
