SD19 special: Early voting begins Monday for the SD19 special runoff election between former Rep. and U.S. Rep. Pete Gallego (D-Alpine) and retired Pleasanton game warden Pete Flores (R). Election Day is September 18. The candidates’ pre-runoff campaign finance reports are also due on Monday.

House Speaker: Rep. Four Price (R-Amarillo) filed paperwork with the Texas Ethics Commission establishing his candidacy for Speaker of the House. He joins five other Republicans – Reps. Travis Clardy (R-Nacogdoches), Drew Darby (R-San Angelo), Phil King (R-Weatherford), Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) and John Zerwas (R-Richmond) – and one Democrat, Rep. Eric Johnson (D-Dallas).

SEN: National pundit Larry Sabato shifted his rating for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R) seat to “leans Republican” from “likely Republican.”

Primary Turnout: A greater proportion of Delaware’s registered voters turned out for tonight’s primary election than in Texas, despite the fact that a quarter of them couldn’t vote because they did not affiliate with a party when they registered. Texas falls to 40th out of the 47 states that have held primary elections this year. Three of the states behind Texas had no statewide races on the ballot.
