Half of “registered Texas Democrats”* support either former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) or former Vice President Joe Biden, according to a new UT-Tyler poll. O’Rourke (27%) and Biden (24%) are followed by Bernie Sanders (15%), Elizabeth Warren (11%) and Kamala Harris (9%). The only other polled candidate was Pete Buttigieg, so there are no results for former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro.

The poll posed horse-race matchups between President Trump and each of the six polled Democratic candidates. Trump’s support remains within a narrow band (37.1%-38.6%) regardless of opponent, and he is within the margin of error of each of them except for O’Rourke (trailing by 10 points) and Buttigieg (leading by 6 points). More than 20% of respondents are undecided in every matchup except for Trump-O’Rourke, where just 14% of respondents were undecided.

President Trump’s job performance rating was 40/55. Nearly half of respondents to the UT-Tyler poll mentioned answered “Don’t know” when asked about U.S. Sen. John Cornyn’s (R) job performance. His approval rating was 25/27, while U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R) approval rating was 41/44.

The online survey of 1,445 registered voters included a panel of 465 “registered Texas Democrats” and had an overall stated margin of error of ±2.6%. It was in the field July 24-27. A link to the poll was not available.
