House Speaker: Rep. Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound), chair of the House Republican Caucus, filed paperwork establishing his candidacy for Speaker. He joins Reps. Phil King (R-Weatherford) and John Zerwas (R-Richmond), who filed in September and October, respectively. Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) withdrew his candidacy in October and did not seek re-election. Parker said he will resign as caucus chair.
PRES: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said he had no plans to run for higher office in 2020.
CD5 open: The Bunni Pounds campaign announced she had been endorsed by four of her former opponents: Danny Campbell, Charles Lingerfelt, David Williams and Jason Wright.
Terry Co.: Two voters were accidentally given incorrect ballots, and those two ballots may have invalidated Tuesday’s primary results for Terry Co. Commission P4. Ernest Elizondo received 131 out of the 321 votes cast, which not enough to avoid a runoff. The problem is that the other three candidates received 64, 63 and 63 votes, respectively. The Terry Co. Republican Party is expected to file suit on behalf of the candidates, who all agreed to participate in it.
