Travis Co. District Attorney Margaret Moore has told the Austin American-Statesman that Rep. Dawnna Dukes (D-Austin) will not be stepping down on Tuesday as planned. Moore said an attorney representing Dukes called her Saturday to inform her of the decision.

Dukes announced in September that she would resign on the day the 85th Legislature convened, citing health reasons. A field of potential challengers has formed for what was expected to be an early spring special election.

As of 9 p.m. Saturday, Dukes had not commented on the development. According to the Statesman, Dukes has retained new defense counsel to represent her in the ongoing investigation.
