Voters in a handful of local jurisdictions decided several runoff races and a key bond election today (Saturday):

  • Abilene: Incumbent P5 council member Kyle McAlister defeated Cory Clements by 84 votes out of 5,760 votes cast. McAlister led by 55 votes in early voting.
  • Mount Pleasant: Tracy Craig defeated former State Board of Education member Thomas Ratliff, 66%-34%.
  • Orange: Caroline Mazzola Hennigan defeated the at-large P5 incumbent Bill Mello, 72%-28%, and Mary McKenna ousted incumbent D4 council member Annette Pernell, 67%-33%.
  • Wichita Falls ISD: A tax ratification bond/tax swap election that drew opposition from local Tea Party activists and the Arlington-based Texans for Freedom PAC passed, 83%-17%.

We will once again be providing live coverage next weekend as voters in Brownsville (mayor and two council seats), McAllen (one council seat), Port Arthur (mayor) and a few other locations will settle unfinished business from the May 4 election.
