Democratic precinct chairs are scheduled to meet on June 25 to select a new nominee to replace the late Comm. El Franco Lee, who was running unopposed for re-election. Lee passed away in January.

Ellis’s announcement includes the names of 65 of the 125 precinct chairs able to vote for a new nominee.

Ellis has previously announced the endorsement of Lee’s wife Kaye and most of the Democratic elected officials in Harris Co.

If Ellis is selected to replace Lee on the ballot, then the Democratic precinct chairs of SD19 would meet to choose a replacement nominee for senate. If they choose a sitting House member running for re-election, then the Democratic precinct chairs of that house district would meet to choose a replacement nominee for representative. All replacement nominees must be named by August 26.
