Tom Bean salon owner and former SD30 candidate Shelley Luther is planning to announce campaign plans on Monday after she re-authorized her campaign account but did not specify a state office she might seek. Tom Bean is located with SD30 (Safe R), which is held by Sen. Drew Springer (R-Muenster), and HD62 (Safe R), which is held by Rep. Reggie Smith (R-Val Alstyne). Luther lost a 2020 special runoff election to Springer, 56%-44%, for which she raised nearly $2M. She could also run statewide.

RRC (Likely R): Houston oil and gas management consultant Tom Slocum announced he would challenge Comm. Wayne Christian (R) in the primary.

The Texas Oil & Gas Assoc. PAC endorsed Christian.

SD7 (Likely R): Houston resident Mike Graham established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston). While we could not identify him conclusively, a social media account belonging to a Houston resident of that name shows all the signs of a politically active individual who could become a potential candidate. That activity suggests he would run as a Republican.

HD33 (Safe R): Rockwall college student Graeson N. Lynskey established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Justin Holland (R-Heath) as a Democrat.

HD84 open (Likely R): Lubbock commercial real estate agent and former Lubbock Co. Republican chair Carl H. Tepper established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by Rep. John Frullo (R-Lubbock).

CD4 (Safe R): Former President Trump endorsed U.S. Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Prosper).

CD10 (Likely R): Former President Trump endorsed U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin).

CD28 (Lean D): San Antonio security systems business owner and former police officer Willie Ng established a campaign committee to challenge U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo) as a Republican. Ng unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for Bexar Co. Sheriff in 2020 (30%).

CD31 (Safe R): Former President Trump endorsed U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-Round Rock).

Bexar Co.: Former San Antonio Mayor Ed Garza is considering a run for Bexar County Judge as a Democrat. Former District Judge Peter Sakai (D) is already in the race, and Rep. Ina Minjarez (D-San Antonio) is considering the race.

Harris Co.: Harris Co. Civil Court Judge Lesley Briones announced she will challenge Harris Co. Comm. Jack Cagle (R) as a Democrat. She received the endorsement from Comms. Rodney Ellis (D) and Adrian Garcia (D). Briones was originally appointed to the bench after her predecessor, Bill McLeod, announced he would run for the Texas Supreme Court, triggering the state constitution’s resign-to-run provision.
