HD125 special: Former San Antonio council member Ray Lopez’s lead over Coda Rayo-Garza increased by six votes to 28 after the Bexar Co. Elections Department counted the last mail ballots. In a statement, Rayo-Garza said her campaign has “done our due diligence and ensured that every ballot cast has been accounted for.” She encouraged supporters to keep the district in Democratic hands. Lopez, a Democrat, received just over 19% of the vote in Tuesday’s special election. He faces Republican Fred Rangel, who received 38% of the vote, in the runoff.

Local Filing Deadline: Tomorrow (Friday) is the deadline for municipal, school board and other local candidates to file for a spot on the May 4 uniform election ballot.

SEN: Politico’s Nolan McCaskill reported that former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) met last week with U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to discuss a potential challenge of U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R).

Dallas: Council member Kevin Felder is being investigated by Dallas police for allegedly hitting a person on a scooter and then driving away from the scene before police arrived. An attorney representing Felder said there was no collision. Felder has filed for re-election. He currently faces seven challengers, including Tiffinni Young, a former council member whom Felder ousted in 2017.

Uvalde: The city council approved a plan for a November special election to ask voters to change the length of the mayor’s term of office to four years, which would match the other five council members’ terms. Currently, the mayoral term is two years.
