Austin: Council member Sheri Gallo lost her runoff against challenger Alison Alter, 64%-36%. Gallo, who narrowly missed an outright win in the November general election, lost 70% of her voters. She is the second Austin council member to fall this election cycle, following Don Zimmerman, who lost his rematch against Jimmy Flannigan, 56%-44%, last month. About 22% of registered voters participated in the runoff.

Baytown: Just 4% of registered voters participated in the runoff election for the open city council D3 seat. Charles Johnson defeated Spencer Carnes by 18 votes. About 92% of voters who cast ballots in the general election did not return for the runoff.

San Marcos: Council member John Thomaides narrowly won the runoff for mayor by just 42 votes. A pair of former council members had different fortunes. Former council member Ed Mihalkanin won Thomaides’s unexpired term, 68%-32%, while former council member Shane Scott was defeated in his bid to return to the council, losing to Saul Gonzalez, 68%-32%. Just under 10% of registered voters participated.
