CD2 open: Rep. Kevin Roberts (R-Houston) formed a campaign committee and announced he would seek the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Ted Poe (R-Humble). Roberts will not be seeking re-election to a second term in the state House.

HD8 open: Palestine real estate broker Cody Harris formed a campaign committee for the seat being vacated by Rep. Byron Cook (R-Corsicana). Yesterday, we reported that Harris announced his candidacy.

HD10: Rep. DeWayne Burns (R-Cleburne) announced he would seek re-election.

HD54: Killeen veteran and 2016 open-seat candidate Larry Smith re-established his campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of Rep. Scott Cosper (R-Killeen). Smith finished third in the 2016 Republican primary with 21% of the vote. Smith was endorsed by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility/Empower Texans, the Texas Home School Coalition and Young Conservatives of Texas in that race. He also unsuccessfully ran for CD34 in 2014, receiving 39% of the vote against U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Brownsville). Salado veterinarian and former Killeen ISD trustee Brad Buckley has also announced for the race.

HD121 open: George Rodriguez, San Antonio conservative commentator and former president of the San Antonio Tea Party, is considering a run for the seat being vacated by Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio). “Stay tuned,” Rodriguez said in a Facebook post. “This is a very big decision for me.”

HD126 open: Spring auto dealer Sam Harless, husband of former Rep. Patricia Harless (R-Spring), announced he would seek the seat being vacated by Rep. Kevin Roberts (R-Houston) as a Republican. In 2013, Sam Harless formed a campaign committee for the then-open SD7 seat but ultimately withdrew and supported Paul Bettencourt.

HD145: Houston resident Clayton Hunt formed a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Carol Alvarado (D-Houston) as a Libertarian.

CD7: Former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell (D-Houston) endorsed Lizzie Pannill Fletcher in the Democratic primary.

CD21 open: Jenifer Sarver, an Austin media consultant and former speechwriter for former U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R), announced on Facebook that she is “taking a serious look at running” for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio) as a Republican.
