The Don Huffines (R) campaign released a new ad, “Stop the Invasion,” criticizing Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) handling of the recent surge of migrants in Del Rio.

The ad is part of an “aggressive, six-figure media buy” in 15 markets, including “prominently” airing during Saturday’s Texas-OU football game.

SD9: Democratic candidate Salman Bhojani has suspended his campaign. Under the map adopted by the Senate, Bhojani would not live in the district.

HD76 “open”: Sugar Land physician Suleman Lalani announced he would run for what would be an open Fort Bend Co. district under the plan advanced by the House Redistricting Committee. Lalani lost the 2020 Democratic runoff for HD26 with 48% of the vote.

HDXXX: Austin community organizer David Alcorta established a campaign committee for a potential run for a House seat as a Democrat. He did not designate which seat he would seek. Alcorta interned for Rep. Rhetta Bowers (D-Rowlett) during the 2019 session.

Redistricting: The Senate passed a congressional redistricting plan that largely cements incumbents’ fortunes while reducing the number of Black-majority and Hispanic/Latino-majority districts. Senate Bill 6 by Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Houston) was amended twice on the floor before a series of mostly Democratic amendments was voted down. The bill has been referred to the House Redistricting Committee.
