U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler) confirmed that he will challenge Atty. Gen. Ken Paxton (R) in the primary, while Rep. Matt Krause (R-Fort Worth) exited the statewide race and will instead run for Tarrant Co. district attorney.

In a video, Gohmert said he reached his $1M fundraising goal, which he said would enable him to run a competitive race.

Krause, who has been running for AG (Lean R), is expected to make a formal announcement of his intent to succeed the retiring Dist. Atty. Sharon Wilson (R) tomorrow (Tuesday).

HD37 open (Lean D): Palm Valley Mayor George Rivera is expected to announce he will run as a Republican for the newly drawn open seat in Cameron and Willacy Cos. Rivera was first elected mayor in 2015.

CD30 open (Safe D): Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced he will not seek the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Dallas). “I love being mayor, and it’s the only job in American politics that I want right now,” Johnson told the Dallas Morning News’s Gromer Jeffers Jr.
