SEN: Houston resident Edward Kimbrough filed in the Democratic primary to challenge U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R).

CD4: Emory resident Catherine Krantz filed as a Democrat to challenge U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Rockwall).

CD5 open: A David Williams filed in the Republican primary for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Dallas). We were unable to identify him conclusively. At least seven candidates have filed for the Republican nomination.

CD6 open: Arlington retired aerospace consultant Ken Cope and Kennedale lending manager Adrian Mizher filed in the Republican primary for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis). Cope unsuccessfully challenged U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R) in the 2014 Republican primary, finishing fifth with 3% of the vote. A Kevin Harrison also filed in the Republican primary, but we were unable to identify him conclusively. At least 12 people are seeking the Republican nomination, almost all of whom have entered the race since Barton announced his retirement.

CD10: Bastrop resident Madeline K. Eden filed in the Democratic primary to challenge U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin). At least five candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination.

CD21 open: A Mauro Garza filed in the Republican primary for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio). We were unable to identify him conclusively. He is the 13th Republican to file for the race.

CD27: Former Texas Water Development Board chair Bech Bruun filed in the Republican primary to challenge U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Corpus Christi), who now has at least five primary challengers. Bruun resigned from his post earlier this week and was widely expected to enter this race. Meanwhile, Farenthold reaffirmed he would seek re-election.
