Early Voting begins Monday for the November 6 general and constitutional amendment election.

SD8 open: Jackie Schlegel, executive director of Texans for Vaccine Choice, endorsed Phillip Huffines.

SD19: The federal criminal fraud trial of Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) has been postponed until January 4 after the judge decided that a co-defendant’s counsel was not prepared for trial.

HD52 open: Hispanic Republicans of Texas endorsed Cynthia Flores for the seat being vacated by Rep. Larry Gonzales (R-Round Rock).

Fannin Co.: County Judge Spanky Carter (R) announced he would seek re-election. Former U.S. Dept. of Agriculture biologist Randy Moore has already announced he would challenge Carter in the primary.

Gregg Co.: Gregg Co. Sheriff Maxey Cerliano (R) and several law enforcement officials and associations endorsed Kilgore attorney and former police officer Tom Watson in his primary challenge against Gregg Co. District Attorney Carl Dorrough (R).

Garland: Mayor Douglas Athas announced he would resign following a city council vote to demolish a former National Guard armory building to make way for a voter-approved skate park project, reported the Dallas Morning News’s Ray Leszcynski. Athas said he did not want his resignation to trigger a special election, which likely means he would remain mayor into 2018. Garland holds a regularly scheduled municipal election in May.
