PRES: Sen. Don Huffines (R-Dallas), who headed Rand Paul’s organization in Texas, is now supporting U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz following Paul’s departure from the presidential race today. Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) tweeted that he has endorsed Cruz, and the Texas Tribune reported [http://www.texastribune.org/2016/02/03/after-paul-exits-cruz-wins-new-supporters-texas/] that Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-Bedford), a supporter of Paul’s, had also endorsed Cruz. Meanwhile, Sen. John Whitmire (D-Houston) will endorse Hillary Clinton at an event at her newly opened Houston campaign office.

SD1 open: Comptroller Glenn Hegar endorsed Rep. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola).

HD14: Sen. Don Huffines (R-Dallas) endorsed challenger Jess Fields.

HD18 open: The Texas Patriots PAC “approved” Keith Strahan.

HD33 open: Texas Values Action endorsed John Keating.

HD47: Texas Values Action endorsed Rep. Paul Workman (R-Austin).

HD71 open: Julie McCarty, president of the NE Tarrant Tea Party, endorsed Chris Carnohan.

HD89: The Dallas Morning News endorsed Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (R-Wylie).

HD92: Texas Alliance for Life PAC endorsed challenger Scott Fisher. The group endorsed Rep. Jonathan Stickland’s (R-Bedford) primary challenger in 2014.

HD94: The Dallas Police Assoc. and Texas Municipal Police Assoc. endorsed challenger Andrew Piel. TMPA endorsed then-Rep. Diane Patrick before her 2014 loss to current Rep. Tony Tinderholt (R-Arlington). The Dallas Police Assoc. did not appear to endorse in HD94 last cycle, but it did endorse Rep. Jonathan Stickland’s (R-Bedford) 2014 primary opponent.
