Early voting begins tomorrow (Monday) for the May 5 uniform and special elections.

Redistricting: The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for the Texas redistricting case on Tuesday.

GOV: The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Andrew White in the Democratic runoff over Lupe Valdez. The paper previously endorsed White for the primary.

HD46 open: Manor ISD trustee and former primary opponent Ana Cortez endorsed Chito Vela in the Democratic runoff. Cortez finished fourth in the six-way primary with 8% of the vote.

HD119: Converse attorney Lynette Boggs-Perez updated her campaign treasurer appointment for a potential run for the seat currently held by Rep. Roland Gutierrez (D-San Antonio), who has announced his intent to seek the SD19 seat currently held by Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio). Boggs-Perez filed in the Republican primary for the 225th District Court but was disqualified for having an insufficient number of valid signatures on her petition. Boggs-Perez, then known as Lynette Boggs McDonald, is a former Las Vegas, Nev., city council member and Clark Co. (Nev.) commissioner. She also ran unsuccessfully for the Nevada legislature and Congress.

CD21 open: The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Chip Roy in the Republican runoff over Matt McCall and Joseph Kopser in the Democratic runoff over Mary Wilson. The paper previously endorsed Jenifer Sarver in the Republican primary and Kopser in the Democratic primary.

Dallas Ballot Suit: On Monday, District Judge Eric Moye is expected to decide whether a lawsuit seeking to remove dozens of Dallas Co. Democratic candidates, including Rep. Eric Johnson (D-Dallas), from the ballot will proceed. In January, the Dallas Co. Republican Party sued to remove up to 128 Democratic candidates, claiming that their applications were not certified by Dallas Co. Democratic Party chair Carol Donovan and were thus invalid. At issue is whether state law explicitly requires a county party chair’s signature to validate an application and whether the Republican Party has standing to sue.

Abilene: The Abilene Reporter-News endorsed challenger Alex Russell for city council P2 over incumbent Bruce Kreitler.

Arlington: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram endorsed Barbara Odom-Wesley for city council.

Houston: The Houston Chronicle endorsed Martha Castex-Tatum in the May 5 special election to succeed the late council member Larry Green. Castex-Tatus is the director of constituent services in Green’s office and a former San Marcos council member. Nine candidates are seeking the seat.
