Early voting for the March 3 primary election begins on Tuesday.

RRC: The Dallas Morning News and the San Antonio Express-News endorsed Comm. Ryan Sitton (R) and Chrysta Castañeda (D) for their respective party’s nominations.

Courts: The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Amy Clark Meachum (SCCJ), Larry Praeger (SC6), Brandy Voss (SC7), Gisela Triana (SC8), Elizabeth Frizell (CCA3) and Tara Clinton (CCA4) for the Democratic nominations for their respective races.

HD121: The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Celina Montoya for the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Steve Allison (R-San Antonio).

HD126: The Houston Chronicle endorsed Natali Hurtado for the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Sam Harless (R-Spring).

HD138 open: The Houston Chronicle endorsed Akilah Bacy for the Democratic nomination for the seat being vacated by Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston).

HD139: The Houston Chronicle endorsed Rep. Jarvis Johnson (D-Houston) for re-nomination.

HD142: The Houston Chronicle endorsed Rep. Harold Dutton (D-Houston) for re-nomination.

SEN: The Austin American-Statesman endorsed M.J. Hegar for the Democratic nomination to challenge U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R).

CD8: The Houston Chronicle endorsed U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) for re-nomination.

CD12: Independent expenditures by outside groups in the Republican primary has exceeded $2.5M, with just over $4 out of every $5 going to support primary challenger Chris Putnam. The Protect Freedom PAC has spent more than $1.1M on the race to date, and Club for Growth Action has spent $912K. Most of those sums have been expended opposing U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth). The Congressional Leadership Fund has spent $391K in support of Granger, who has also been the beneficiary of the National Assoc. of Realtors PAC ($52K) and WFW Action Fund ($40K).

CD17 open: The Austin American-Statesman endorsed Ahmad Adnan (R) and Rick Kennedy (D) for their respective party’s nomination to succeed the retiring U.S. Rep. Bill Flores (R-Bryan).

CD25: The Austin American-Statesman endorsed U.S. Rep. Roger Williams (R-Austin) and Julie Oliver (D) for their respective party’s nomination.

CD28: Former San Antonio Mayor and presidential candidate Julián Castro endorsed primary challenger Jessica Cisneros over U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo).

CD31: The Austin American-Statesman endorsed U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-Round Rock) and Christine Mann (D) for their respective party’s nomination.

CD32: U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Heath) endorsed Genevieve Collins to challenge U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (R-Dallas).

Filing Deadline: Today (Friday) was the deadline to file for local offices on the May 2 uniform election ballot.

Abilene: Mayor Anthony Williams nearly made it through today’s filing deadline unopposed until Cynthia Alvidrez filed in the final minutes. Alvidrez failed to make the runoff in a 2019 race for council P5. Two filed to challenge P3 incumbent Donna Albus, and no one filed to challenge P4 incumbent Weldon Hurt.

Waco: Three have filed to succeed outgoing Mayor Kyle Deaver. Council member Dillon Meek will face bicycling advocate Dave Morrow and fitness instructor Benny Sims. D1 council member Andrea Barefield will face nightclub owner Randy Gober.
