Filing for the 2020 election is underway. Our Crib Sheets have up-to-date filing status of the candidates we are tracking. At least 119 candidates have already filed.

HD1: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) endorsed Rep. Gary VanDeaver (R-New Boston) for re-election.

HD26: Two-time statewide Democratic nominee Mike Collier endorsed Rish Oberoi for the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Rick Miller (R-Sugar Land).

HD63: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) endorsed Rep. Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) for re-election.

HD127: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) endorsed Rep. Dan Huberty (R-Humble) for re-election.

HD135: Houston attorney Mark McCaig has ended his campaign. On his campaign’s Facebook page, McCaig said he hoped to avoid “an expensive and potentially divisive Republican primary.” Jersey Village Mayor Justin Ray is the only other known challenger of Rep. Jon Rosenthal (D-Houston).

CD11 open: San Angelo rodeo cowboy Wacey Alpha Cody updated his campaign committee to change his partisan affiliation to Libertarian from Republican as he seeks the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Midland).

CD13 open: Wichita Falls business development consultant Jamie Culley established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) as a Republican.

Houston: A number of current elected officials endorsed Mayor Sylvester Turner for re-election including Reps. Alma Allen (D-Houston), Gina Calanni (D-Houston), Christina Morales (D-Houston), Ron Reynolds (D-Missouri City), Shawn Thierry (D-Houston), Hubert Vo (D-Houston) and Gene Wu (D-Houston); U.S. Reps. Sylvia Garcia (D-Houston), Al Green (D-Houston) and Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston); Harris Co. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez (D); Harris Co. Comm. Rodney Ellis (D); and former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell (D-Houston).
