A few things we wanted to share with you today:

Hickman Appointed Sheriff. The Harris Co. Commissioners Court today appointed Constable Ron Hickman as Sheriff, succeeding Houston mayoral candidate Adrian Garcia. Rep. Allen Fletcher (R-Tomball), who has previously announced he would run for sheriff in 2016, tweeted a congratulations to Hickman:

The Commissioners Court is scheduled to meet again on June 2 and may, at that time, consider and vote on a replacement for Constable, Precinct 4. Rep. Fletcher’s district lies within that precinct.

San Antonio Mayor. Bexar Co. Judge Nelson Wolff endorsed former Sen. Leticia Van de Putte.

Huffines Mulling Sessions Challenge. Sen. Don Huffines (R-Dallas) told Quorum Report he has not ruled out challenging U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions in the 2016 Republican primary. Sessions defeated a Tea Party challenger, 64%-36%, in 2014. She raised $227K for that race. Huffines raised $1.9M and spent $3.2M in his successful challenge against former Sen. John Carona, which he won 51%-49% with Tea Party support. Sessions reported having $721K on hand in his April quarterly report.

Local Runoff Election Dates. Here is a non-exhaustive list of local runoff election dates to settle the outstanding mayor and city council races:

  • June 13 – Amarillo, Dallas, El Paso, McKinney, San Antonio
  • June 20 – Beaumont
  • TBD – Brownsville, Marshall

Error in Our Report. On Saturday, we reported that there would be no runoff in the Brownsville municipal elections. There will in fact be runoffs for at least one council seat — likely two — and the mayor’s race. We regret the error.

New CTAs. No new campaign treasurer appointments (CTAs) of interest have been filed since our last report.
