RRC: Christi Craddick, chair of the Railroad Commission, announced she would seek re-election.

HD62: Rep. Larry Phillips (R-Sherman) said he intends to support Reggie Smith, the Grayson Co. Republican Party chair, in the race to succeed him. Phillips is not seeking re-election. Smith has not yet announced his candidacy but has established a campaign committee for the race days before Phillips’s announcement.

CD32: Former U.S. Dept. of Agriculture official Lillian Salerno announced she would seek the Democratic nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Dallas). She is at least the 12th Democrat to take a formal step toward running against Sessions. Meanwhile, in a tweet, Sessions confirmed he is running for re-election.

Alice: Council member Elida Garza has resigned. She is one of two council members that are subject of a recall election in November.

Hidalgo Co.: Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez announced he would not run for Hidalgo County Judge. An exploratory committee had been formed on his behalf, but Hernandez ultimately decided “there is no better time and no better opportunity than now to continue the work I have begun as mayor,” according to a statement. Incumbent Ramon Garcia is not seeking re-election. Former Hidalgo County Judge Eloy Pulido has announced for the race, and former McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez is considering running.
