CD5 open: On the eve of the runoff, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) endorsed Bunni Pounds over Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Terrell). Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney General has asked Kaufman Co. officials to hold nearly 600 mail-in ballots until they can be inspected by investigators, potentially delaying the final results of the race.

Maverick Co.: A candidate in the Democratic runoff for county judge has allegedly left a threatening voicemail message for the county Democratic Party chair. Rudy Bowles left the email seeking a list of judges for each precinct and, allegedly, threatened to call a cross-border gang if he did not receive the list. Bowles, an Eagle Pass ISD trustee and former Maverick County Judge, apologized for the incident. He faces the incumbent, David Saucedo, in the runoff.

Motor Voter: U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia has given the state 45 days to create an online system permitting Texas to register to vote when they obtain or renew their driver’s licenses. The state has appealed the ruling to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
