Registration Deadline: Tuesday is the last day to register for the November 7 general and constitutional amendment election.

LTGOV: Rockwall public relations executive and former council member Scott Milder established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R). Milder was first elected to council P5 in 2013 and re-elected in 2015. He lost his bid for a third term in May to Rockwall chamber president Dana Macalik, 43%-35%.

ED2: Harlingen business consultant Eric Garza established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of board member Ruben Cortez (D-Brownsville), likely as a Republican. Garza is not Cameron Co. District Clerk Eric Garza, who we believe is seeking re-election.

Bexar Co.: County Judge Nelson Wolff announced he would seek re-election. San Antonio environmental advocate Mario Bravo, who is dating San Antonio council member Ana Sandoval, announced he would challenge longtime incumbent County Comm. Paul Elizondo in the Democratic primary. Elizondo backed Sandoval’s opponent, then-incumbent council member Cris Medina, in May.

Limestone Co.: Three county commissioners filed a petition with the 77th District Court seeking to remove County Judge Daniel Burkeen from office, alleging official misconduct and other deeds. Burkeen called the allegations “half-truths.”

Midland Co.: County Judge Mike Bradford announced he would not seek re-election to a fourth term.

Brownsville: Council member Cesar De Leon resigned, citing a conflict of interest between his legal practice and his public service. He was recently recorded using racial slurs to describe an African-American attorney, and he has issued an apology for those remarks.
