Election Day is tomorrow (Saturday) for many local jurisdictions across the state. We will have live coverage of selected races beginning at 7 p.m.

SD8: The Dallas Morning News’s Gromer Jeffers Jr. reported Rep. Matt Shaheen (R-Plano) is waiting for Sen. Van Taylor (R-Plano) to make an official announcement that he is running for CD3 before announcing his decision on an SD8 run. In the article, Shaheen and a spokesman for Phillip Huffines traded barbs about their readiness to serve in the Senate.

HD46: Rep. Dawnna Dukes’s (D-Austin) criminal trial is expected to begin June 30. A pretrial hearing had been scheduled for next week. Dukes’s attorneys requested and obtained a legislative continuance to delay the trial until after the end of the legislative session.

CD4: Sherman attorney Sholdon Daniels has filed paperwork establishing a campaign committee for a potential challenge to U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Rockwall) as a Democrat.

Cook Ratings: National pundit Charlie Cook moved CD7, held by U.S. Rep. John Culberson (R-Houston), and CD32, held by U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Dallas), from “likely Republican” to “lean Republican” following yesterday’s health care (AHCA) vote. CD23, held by U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-San Antonio), the state’s lone competitive district the last two cycles, was already in the “lean Republican” column. Culberson and Sessions voted for the AHCA; Hurd voted no.
