Redistricting: The federal trial over the districts drawn in 2013 for the Texas House of Representatives and U.S. House of Representatives continued in San Antonio for the fourth of what is now expected to be six days. Plaintiffs called their final witnesses, and the state will call its witnesses tomorrow.

GOV: As has been widely expected, Gov. Greg Abbott will announce he will seek re-election tomorrow in San Antonio. He will campaign in McAllen on Saturday.

HD106: Frisco custom golf cart business owner and CoServ electric cooperative board member Clint Bedsole formed a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Frisco). However, Bedsole could be planting a flag in this race under an assumption that Fallon will challenge Sen. Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) instead of seek re-election.

SEN: U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) out-raised U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) during the second quarter of 2017. On his Facebook page, U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) said his campaign raised $2.1M during the second quarter of 2017. He has $1.8M on hand. According to the post, 81% of the money was raised from Texas, and the average donation was $44. Cruz will report raising $1.6M for the quarter and having $5.7M on hand, more than triple O’Rourke’s total.

Patrick Tapped: Former District Judge Ryan Patrick (R) is expected to be nominated as the U.S. Attorney for the Houston region by President Trump. Patrick, son of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), was one of a number of Republican incumbents who were swept out of office following record levels of Democratic straight-party voting in 2016.

Voter Fraud: Miguel Hernandez, who was indicted earlier this week by a Dallas Co. grand jury for allegedly voting with someone else’s mail-in ballot, was arrested following a traffic stop. He had been on the lam for a month since a warrant was first issued for his arrest.
