Proposed Legislation: Rep. Mike Lang (R-Granbury) filed a bill requiring most elections – whether for office or for bonds and other propositions – to be held either in conjunction with the March primary in even-numbered years or on the November general election day in any year.

Corpus Christi: A special election has been called for May 6, the uniform election date, to fill the unexpired term of former Mayor Dan McQueen, whose resignation was accepted yesterday (Tuesday) by the council. No other elections are planned in the city that day, and the only elections currently scheduled in Nueces Co. for that day are in Bishop and Driscoll.

At least seven candidates have indicated they would run: educator Jonathan Garison, former council and gubernatorial candidate Ray Madrigal, former council member Chad Magill, former Mayor Nelda Martinez, council member Joe McComb, former council member Mark Scott and city ethics commission member Larry White.

Dallas: Former council member Tennell Atkins filed against incumbent Erik Wilson to reclaim the seat he was term-limited out of two years ago. Atkins served four consecutive two-year terms before the city’s term limit requirements forced him to step aside. Members of the city council may serve no more than four consecutive terms, but there is no lifetime limit on how many years they may serve on the council. Former council member Dwaine Caraway, who was also term-limited in 2015, is rumored to be considering a bid to retake his former seat.
