Voter ID: Attorney General Ken Paxton and the U.S. Dept. of Justice asked federal judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos to delay next week’s trial on discriminatory effect until after June 18, the deadline for Gov. Greg Abbott to veto legislation.

SD8: The Dallas Morning News’s Gromer Jeffers Jr. reported that Dallas Co. Republican Party chair Phillip Huffines, brother of Sen. Don Huffines (R-Dallas), is considering a potential open-seat race for senate if Sen. Van Taylor (R-Plano) runs for the congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Plano). Phillip Huffines does not currently reside in the district, a portion of which (32 precicnts) lies in Dallas Co., mostly Richardson and a small portion of north central Dallas. Reps. Jeff Leach (R-Plano) and Matt Shaheen (R-Plano) and Collin Co. Judge Keith Self are also mentioned as potential candidates.

HD27: The Texas Tribune’s Jackie Wang reported that the Office of Attorney General has sued Rep. Ron Reynolds (D-Missouri City) for failing to file campaign finance reports and personal financial statements for more than a year. Reynolds owes more than $40K in fines to the Texas Ethics Commission for failing to file required reports. Reynolds has established a payment plan with the commission and is “almost finished” with his delinquent financial reports, according to the article.
