CD21: Democrat Thomas Wakely has filed a new statement of candidacy indicating he will once again challenge U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio) in 2018. Wakely received 36% of the vote in 2016.

Dallas Co.: Former District Judge John Creuzot announced he would challenge District Attorney Faith Johnson, who was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to fill the unexpired term of former DA Susan Hawk.

Killeen: Incumbent council member Dick Young has withdrawn from the May 6 election. He was appointed to the D2 seat in June to succeed Jose Segarra, who ran successfully for mayor. Young previously served on the council from 2001 to 2007 and lost the 2014 mayor’s race to Scott Cosper, who is now a state representative. Young’s withdrawal leaves minister Debbie Nash-King as the sole candidate. Friday is the filing deadline.
