HD150: Spring university student Michael Walsh established a campaign committee and a Facebook page for a potential challenge of Rep. Valoree Swanson (R-Spring), likely as a Democrat.
El Paso: Incumbent D1 council member Peter Svarzbein won Saturday’s runoff election over Veronica Fresca, 64%-36%. In the D8 runoff, incumbent Cissy Lizzaraga defeated Nicholas Vasquez, 62%-38%.
Fort Worth: Mayor Betsy Price announced she would seek a fifth term. She was first elected in May 2011.
Palmview: Visiting Judge Romeo Flores granted a temporary restraining order prevent the city council from ordering a new mayoral election. Mayor Rick Villarreal filed suit claiming the city was not required to follow the Secretary of State’s opinion that he was not lawfully elected. Villarreal was listed on the ballot as unopposed and thus declared elected, but state law only permits that if all candidates for a political subdivision’s offices are unopposed. Two council races were contested. A hearing has been scheduled for January 9. The council was set to meet on Friday and expected to order an election for January 29.
