GOV: Sen. Sylvia Garcia (D-Houston) endorsed Lupe Valdez in the Democratic runoff.

HD13 open: The Jill Wolfskill campaign announced she has been endorsed by former Republican primary opponents Dan McCarthy and Marc Young, who each received 6% of the vote. Wolfskill (39%) faces Ben Leman (36%) in the May 22 runoff and in the May 5 special election for the seat vacated by former Rep. Leighton Schubert (R-Caldwell). The other defeated primary candidate, David Stall, does not appear to have endorsed a runoff candidate.

CD2 open: U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) endorsed Dan Crenshaw in the Republican runoff.

CD5 open: Reps. Cole Hefner (R-Mount Pleasant) and Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler) endorsed Bunni Pounds. Meanwhile, Dallas hotelier Monty Bennett and his Dartmore Group are the sole contributors to the Our Conservative Texas Future PAC, which raised $105K to support Rep. Lance Gooden’s (R-Terrell) bid to succeed the retiring U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Dallas). Bennett, either by himself or through an entity he controls, has contributed at least $141K to Gooden’s legislative campaigns since 2008.

CD27 open: U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Corpus Christi) disputed a Politico story that he is considering resigning prior to the end of his term. Farenthold did not seek re-election.

Houston: The city council ordered a May 5 special election to fill the unexpired term of the late council member Larry Green, who passed away two weeks ago. Candidates must file by Monday.
