SD6 special: Early voting has begun for the December 11 special election to fill the unexpired term of former Sen. and current U.S. Rep.-elect Sylvia Garcia (D-Houston). Just 710 people voted today, 373 in person and 337 by mail. In January 2013, just over 16K voted in the last SD6 special election, including Election Day. It was the lowest vote total for a special election for a Senate seat since at least 1992 and likely much longer.

Meanwhile, the Houston Chronicle endorsed Rep. Carol Alvarado (D-Houston).

HD108: In a tweet, Democratic challenger Joanna Cattanach said the recount of her 220-vote loss to Rep. Morgan Meyer (R-Dallas) would begin tomorrow (Tuesday) and would include electronic and hand-counted votes.

CD24: Democratic challenger Jan McDowell reauthorized her campaign committee for a potential 2020 rematch against U.S. Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-Carrollton). McDowell received 47% of the vote in this year’s general election and 39% in 2016.

Austin: Mayor Steve Adler endorsed Paige Ellis in the D8 runoff over Frank Ward.

Dallas: Early voting has begun for the December 11 special runoff election to fill the unexpired term of former council member Dwaine Caraway, who resigned in August after pleading guilty to federal corruption and tax evasion charges. Caraway admitted to accepting $450K in bribes and kickbacks to help a security camera company win a contract with Dallas County Schools, the now-bankrupt entity that used to operate about a dozen school district’s buses and other student transportation programs.. Former council member Carolyn King Arnold (26%) faces community activist Keyaira Saunders (17%).

Meanwhile, Dallas ISD Trustee Jaime Resendez announced he would seek the P5 city council seat being vacated by Rickey Callahan.
