SD27: State Board of Education member Ruben Cortez (D-Brownsville) said on Facebook that he will challenge Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. (D-Brownsville) in the Democratic primary. San Benito attorney Sara Stapleton-Barrera is already in the race. Lucio raised less than $5K during the last two weeks of June, the only days so far this year he could accept contributions ahead of the June 30 filing period.

HD62: Denison resident Gary Thomas established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Reggie Smith (R-Van Alstyne). We were unable to identify him conclusively.

HD63: Flower Mound resident Anthony Lawrence established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound). We were unable to identify him conclusively.

HD100 special: Former Dallas judge Rob Cañas announced he would not be a candidate in the special election or the 2020 Democratic primary. “The timing is not right,” Cañas wrote in a Facebook post. “I do want to focus on being the best lawyer I can be.”

CD11: San Angelo oil and gas project manager Ross Alan Schumann established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Midland) as a Republican.

CD26: Frisco resident Jay Taylor established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Lewisville) as an independent.
