CD6 open: A Public Policy Polling survey conducted for the Jana Lynne Sanchez campaign shows the Democrat trailing Republican Ron Wright, 48%-39%. Respondents were not given the option to choose Libertarian Jason Harber or independent Greg Brady. Interestingly, Sanchez underperforms a generic Democratic candidate (45%) while Wright polls about the same as a generic Republican candidate (49%). Wright, who was described as a “former chief of staff to Joe Barton and current Tarrant Co. Tax Assessor,” was viewed favorably by 32% of respondents and unfavorably by 29%. Sanchez’s favorability was not polled.

CD14: Former President Barack Obama endorsed Democratic challenger Adrienne Bell, who worked as a field organizer for his 2012 re-election campaign.

CD32: Former President Barack Obama endorsed Democratic challenger Colin Allred, who served as a special assistant within the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development during the second Obama Administration.

Dallas Co.: Former Justice of the Peace Brian Hutcheson is the Republican Party’s new nominee for county judge. The executive committee selected him after former Rowlett Mayor Todd Gottel, who won the March primary, was appointed a precinct chair. Section 145.036, Election Code allows a party’s executive committee to replace a nominee who has been appointed to fill a vacancy in another elective office. Hutcheson was seeking re-election to his current office, but his name was removed from the ballot because his candidacy petition lacked the sufficient number of valid signatures. Hutcheson would face incumbent County Judge Clay Jenkins in November.
