Registration Deadline: Tomorrow (Thursday) is the deadline to register, or update one’s registration, to vote in the May 6 uniform election.

CD16 open: Houston educator and El Paso native Nicole LeClaire has filed a statement of candidacy for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) as a Democrat.

CD21: Austin bicycling activist Elliott McFadden has filed a statement of candidacy for a potential challenge to U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio) as a Democrat. He is the fifth person to take a formal step towards running in the Democratic primary against Smith.

CD36: Houston radio personality and motivational spaker Dayna Steele has created a CrowdPAC page and announced she was forming an exploratory committee for a possible challenge to U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (R-Woodville) as a Democrat.

Dallas: The Dallas Morning News endorsed incumbent Scott Griggs for city council (D1).

San Antonio: The San Antonio Express-News endorsed incumbent Rey Saldaña for city council (D4).

Stockman Legal Update: Claiming he had just $17 in his bank account, former U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Clear Lake) told a magistrate that he could not afford representation as he faces 28 federal charges connected with allegations he helped steal $800K in charitable donations. He asked the court to re-appoint the legal team that has been handling his case, at the government’s expense. Stockman is expected to plead “not guilty” to all charges at a Friday hearing.
