SD14 special: Austin council member Greg Casar announced he would not seek the seat vacated by former Sen. Kirk Watson (D-Austin) and would remain on the council. Former Austin council member and unsuccessful HD47 Republican primary candidate Don Zimmerman is exploring the race, and Austin attorney Adam Loewy tweeted that he would announce his plans on Thursday. Rep. Eddie Rodriguez (D-Austin) and Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt are seeking Watson’s seat. Former Lago Vista council member and Libertarian Party state chair Patrick Dixon has updated his campaign committee for the race. The filing deadline is May 13.

Everytown Targets: The gun control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund released five new digital ads targeting Republicans in potentially competitive districts, each titled “Ignored Our Safety.” The one below criticizes U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Houston) in CD2.

 

The group also released ads critical of U.S. Reps. John Carter (R-Round Rock) in CD31, Michael McCaul (R-Austin) in CD10 and Chip Roy (R-Austin) in CD21 and Republican nominee Beth Van Duyne in open CD24. The group has pledged to spent $8M in Texas this year.
