HD47: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) endorsed Rep. Paul Workman (R-Austin) for re-election.

TBD: Tomball transportation sales executive Jonathan Cutlip established a campaign committee for a non-judicial state race but did not indicate an office sought. Tomball is located within SD7, held by Sen. Tom Bettencourt (R-Houston); HD130, held by Rep. Tom Oliverson (R-Cypress); and ED6, held by member Donna Bahorich (R-Houston). Bettencourt and Oliverson are up for re-election in 2018, but Bahorich is not.

JD59 open: Rep. Larry Phillips (R-Sherman) announced he would run for the 59th District Court. Incumbent Judge Rim Nall announced he was retiring last month. Phillips announced in September that he would not seek another term in the House.

CD21 open: Rep. Jason Isaac (R-Dripping Springs) announced he would run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio). We have more details on that announcement here. Meanwhile, Bexar Co. Comm. Kevin Wolff announced he would not seek the seat.

CD23: Former Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) endorsed Gina Ortiz Jones for the Democratic nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-San Antonio).

Harris Co.: Houston businessman Mike Nichols established a campaign committee to explore a run for Harris County Judge as a Democrat.

PRES: Costa Mesa, Calif., resident Supreme Steven John Singley and his running mate Lord Rock Edward J. Burke the Great formed a campaign committee for their independent run for president and vice president in 2020. The committee is named Make America Great Again, Again. Singley appears to have been appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown (D) to the San Bernadino County Superior Court in 2014.
