HD6: Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler) announced he would seek re-election.
HD27: Missouri City attorney Wilvin Carter filed as a primary challenger to Rep. Ron Reynolds (D-Missouri City). Reynolds was forced into a primary runoff in 2016.
HD45 open: Driftwood public servant and Hays Co. Democratic Party Treasurer Les Carnes filed in the Democratic primary for the seat being vacated by Rep. Jason Isaac (R-Dripping Springs).
HD46: Austin software executive Nnamdi Orakwue filed as an independent to challenge Rep. Dawnna Dukes (D-Austin). A self-described “lifelong Democrat,” Orakwue had been in the field of Democrats looking to oust Dukes.
CD22: Pearland resident Margarita Ruiz Johnson filed in the Democratic primary to challenge U.S. Rep. Pete Olson (R-Sugar Land).
Montgomery Co.: Rep. Mark Keough (R-The Woodlands) filed for county judge. In May, Keough announced he would not seek re-election and would seek county office.
