Early Voting is underway for the November 6 general and constitutional amendment election.

SD10: Democratic challenger Beverly Powell resigned her seat on the Burleson ISD Board of Trustees to “focus full-time on her race” for SD10. Powell will continue to serve until a replacement is selected by the Board. Her seat is up for election in May.

SD17: Richwood council member and pet resort owner Lauren LaCount established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Houston) as a Libertarian.

SD23: Dallas resident S.T. Russell updated his campaign committee for a potential challenge of Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) as a Republican. Russell ran unsuccessfully for the State Board of Education ED13 in 2012 (26%) and for Dallas Co. Commissioner P3 in 2016 (27%).

HD23: Galveston health care worker Amanda Jamrok established a campaign committee and a Facebook page for a potential challenge of Rep. Wayne Faircloth (R-Dickinson). We were unable to determine her party affiliation but federal campaign finance data suggests she would run as a Democrat.

HD42: Laredo real estate appraiser Luis De La Garza has officially kicked off his campaign to challenge Rep. Richard Raymond (D-Laredo) as a Republican. Former Gov. Rick Perry appointed him chair of the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board in 2011. Since 2005, he has contributed to the campaigns of Perry and Sen. Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo).

HD89 open: Plano real estate agent and 2016 Democratic nominee (33%) Denise Hamilton has established an ActBlue page and web site for a potential run for the seat being vacated by Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (R-Wylie).

HD105: Irving youth mentor and Irving ISD trustee A.D. Jenkins established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Rodney Anderson (R-Grand Prairie) as a Democrat. Jenkins won his 2008 race for the school board, 82%-18%, and his 2016 race, 64%-36%. In between, he lost races in 2011 (45%) and 2012 (28%).

HD106 open: Dallas mortgage broker Ramona Thompson established a campaign committee for a potential race as a Democrat for the seat being vacated by Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Frisco).

HD134: Susanna Dokupil, former vice chair of the Harris County Republican Party, has established a campaign committee for a primary challenge of Rep. Sarah Davis (R-Houston).

CD22: Missouri City commercial real estate broker and former council member Danny Nguyen established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of U.S. Rep. Pete Olson (R-Sugar Land). He is at least the fourth Republican to take a formal step toward challenging Olson.

CD35: Dallas resident David Smalling established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) as a Republican.

Gregg Co.: County Comm. John Mathis announced he would not seek re-election and endorsed three-term Longview council member Kasha Williams. Mathis was first elected in 2006.
