Tomorrow is the general election. We will have live coverage beginning at 7 p.m.
Filing for offices on the ballot in 2018 begins Saturday.
GOV: Dallas Co. Sheriff Lupe Valdez (D) said she is exploring a possible challenge of Gov. Greg Abbott (R). She was first elected in 2004 and has been re-elected three times. Valdez would likely have to resign to run against Abbott. In that case, the Dallas Co. Commissioner’s Court would then appoint her successor. Meanwhile, Houston attorney Kathie Glass kicked off her third race for governor as a Libertarian.
HD147: Rep. Garnet Coleman (D-Houston) announced he would seek re-election.
CD5: Former Rep. Kenneth Sheets (R-Mesquite) established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Dallas). Sheets was first elected in 2010 when he defeated then-Rep. Allen Vaught (D-Dallas), 51%-46%, and was re-elected twice. He was defeated in his 2016 re-election bid by Rep. Victoria Neave (D-Dallas).
CD21: Former San Marcos Mayor and three-time congressional candidate Susan Narvaiz said she is exploring a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio). Narvaiz received 32%, 33% and 32% of the vote in her 2012, 2014 and 2016 races against U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin), respectively.
